This seems to me to be an incredibly dangerous line of thinking. As you acknowledge these tech companies have vast power. You’re defending these groups because you have an affinity with them, because you can see yourself in their place, and who wants to imagine themselves as a monster? Better to characterise them as good at heart but off the rails than fundamentally villainous.

Their decisions have the power to change lives, to alter the way the world operates. That kind of power needs constant observation and keen criticism to shape it properly. They might look a bit different, which is precisely why we need to be on the lookout.
